The Competition is Fierce at the AAD!

Kairos at the American Academy of Dermatologists

Ok, so today we went to set up our booth at the American Academy of Dermatology convention.  We were so excited to finally be in Miami, ready to show our wares to all of the 10,000 Dermatologists that will be attending.  Well, our wide eyes must have told the whole story as we entered the exhibit hall.  Utter amazement is the only way we can describe how we felt walking into this literal “skin city.”  The big dogs like Proctor and Gamble, Neutrogena, Pfizer, Galderma, and Clinique only to name a few, have erected “pseudo-corporate headquarters” touting their products.  Their muscles are flexed to the hilt, I’ll tell ya.  There are water shows, neon light shows along with puffy, comfy couches that lure the customer in to relax their tired feet.  One laser company hauled in a $100,000.00 AirStream Trailer and parked it in their booth space.  REALLY?  Who thinks of this stuff?  For some reason the phrase “keeping up with the Joneses” kept running through my head as we watched yet another bigger, better, louder exhibit go up.  There is some FIERCE competition in this skin industry… thank goodness Kairos is an innovative, new product that speaks for itself without all the hoopla!

Acne tip for guys only…

February 27th, 2010

So, I admit, I am a girl who likes guys with shorter hair.  Not that I don’t like guys with long hair, the majority of them just don’t know how to style and take care of it.  I actually am a fan of the spiked look or shorter hair with gel.  I just think it looks cleaner and makes a guy look out-of-the-shower fresh.  If a guy knows how to take care of his long hair, then it’s all good.

There are ALOT of guys who use hair gel!  After working in a very busy acne clinic for many years, we saw a ton of them!  Or, was it just that the gel was contributing to their acne so much so that that is what brought them to the Derm.  Regardless, we saw many guys who didn’t realize that their hair care products (gels, mousses, hairsprays and some shampoos and conditioners) were making their acne worse.  This is one of the things that prompted us to make a hair care line that not only prevented acne, but also treated it.  Hair products inevitably end up on the surrounding areas of the scalp (face, neck, back and chest) and can wreak havoc on those areas.  Kairos Acne Care Solutions spiking glue and clear style soft gel will not aggravate acne, and in fact, will help treat and prevent acne in any area with which it comes into contact.  How’s that for a miracle product?  Try it and become a fan… we have many!

10 days until the American Academy of Dermatology Convention!

February 23rd, 2010

So Kairos is venturing out into the world of Dermatologists.  So many of our customers are asking where they can get Kairos Acne Care Solutions.  (We completely understand that no one likes to pay shipping costs, so we are working diligently to make our products available to you.)  Getting them into stores takes time, so we decided to cut to the chase and just get your Derms to carry these necessary products for you in their practices.  We will be exposing Kairos to 10,000 Derms next weekend, so wish us luck!  Any of you “expert convention goers” feel free to give us tips on how to work it at the trade show.  We welcome all advice!

Simple “at home” tips for reducing acne

February 20th, 2010

The acne battle can be fought on the home front using a few simple tips from acne experts and Kairos Acne Care Solutions founders Doreen Campbell, RN and Catherine Parker, NP.

First, a very simple tip is changing your pillowcase more often.  Oils from your hair care products and also just your natural production of oils create a loop of contact from your pillowcase back on to your skin all night long.  Many of the oils in hair care products create a slick and shiny look for your hair, but when those oils get on your face… YUK!  Who wants slick and shiny skin?  Definitely, not acne sufferers!

That brings us to our next tip.  Why use hair care products that can aggravate your acne?  Kairos Acne Care Solutions offers a line of seven hair care products that are completely safe for acne sufferers.  They contain only safe oils and also contain acne-fighting medication so that not only do they prevent acne, they also fight existing acne!  Then you don’t even have to worry about your pillowcase, you can roll around in Kairos all night long and let it heal and prevent breakouts.

Third, you must evaluate your diet.  Many people think that foods like chocolate, greasy foods, or sodas cause acne breakouts. When, in reality, there are no studies that prove that is the case.  What has been proven is that the hormones that are added to our dairy and meat products can definitely increase acne.  If you are a dairy or meat lover, try switching to organic foods instead and see if that doesn’t help reduce your breakouts.

Fourth, simple relaxation is a must!  Stress causes an increase in hormonal release, and as we just mentioned, hormones can wreak havoc on acne.  Just some downtime everyday to regroup and relax can work wonders for our appearance!

Fifth… this one is for they guys!  Tired of those nasty bumps on your neck after shaving?  Try using an electric razor instead of a straight-edged razor.  Also, make sure you shave everyday so the follicles don’t become irritated!

Where is your acne?

December 1st, 2009

Where your acne is located can tell you much about the probable cause.  For example, many people experience perioral acne (acne around the mouth and on the chin) when they are “hormonal.”  Acne that is on or around the hairline and down the sides of the cheeks can be caused by hair products.  To find out more acne facts, visit the Kairos acne help center at http://www.kairosclear.com/acne-help/

Accutane takes a hit in LA Times Saturday, November 7

November 10th, 2009

The need for better and safer acne solutions is now greater than ever. The fight against acne may have just lost one of its heavyweights.  LA Times reports  that Accutane, one of the heavy hitters against acne for more than 25 years, has been linked to another serious side effect, inflammatory bowel disease.  This isn’t the first time controversy has reared its ugly head around this drug.  When it was released in 1982, it was warned on the labels that if Accutane was taken during pregnancy, it would cause serious birth defects.  So serious were these defects, that in 2005 the FDA started a program with the help of doctors and pharmacists to join a risk management registry that would ensure that females taking the medication would not become pregnant.  In the past, the package insert from Accutane showed what appeared to be little alien babies with a warning that this is what you’re baby might look like if you take Accutane while pregnant!  I don’t know about you, but I think if a drug can cause serious harm to a fetus, it stands to reason that the question should be asked by the user, “What’s it doing to my body?”

So, another nail in the coffin of Accutane.  Inflammatory bowel disease is a serious disorder and studies show that Accutane users are almost twice as likely to develop the disease as nonusers.   Inflammatory bowel disease causes the intestines to become irritated and swollen, causing severe cramping, diarrhea, weight loss and sometimes intestinal bleeding.  Along with other side effects including, sun sensitivity, muscle and joint aches and pain, headaches, thinning hair, high cholesterol and liver toxicity, this new link to bowel disease may be the final knockout punch for Accutane.  There have also been links to depression and even suicide in some users.  The data regarding the link between bowel disease and Accutane has yet to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, so some physicians are considering it preliminary.  So, once again, the risk of the benefits of the drug must be measured against the risk of the side effects.  I know that the emotional scars of acne run deep, but the physical ailments left in the trail of Accutane may be worse still.  I feel for acne sufferers who feel they are now are left without an option, but this may force the industry to find an acceptable and safe alternative for the future.  Which, in my opinion, is what they should have done in the first place.  A simple, safe and effective alternative for acne sufferers was the compelling force behind the creation of Kairos Acne Care Solutions and we are proud to be able to help!

Oil Reducing – Pore Perfecting Treatment

October 29th, 2009

Many customers are ordering the trio and we want to make sure you know the complete benefits of the Kairos Oil Reducing – Pore Perfecting Treatment.  Remember, the treatment should only be used as directed on the scalp by those individuals who have a VERY oily scalp.  With the pointed tip applicator, squirt lines of the product in three or four rows and then massage into your scalp.  Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing.  There is no need to pull it through the hair, just treat the scalp.  The shampoo and conditioner will do the rest to protect and prevent your hair from causing breakouts.  For those of you who don’t have to wash your hair every day, you may be able to get by with just using the scalp treatment only once a week.  Or, even just use it as a face and body wash if it is too drying for your scalp. Some customers have said that they just dab it on new pimples and it is very effective in drying them up quickly!  Remember, reducing the oil on your scalp makes your face less oily, too.  So if you suffer from midday oiliness on your face, the Kairos Oil Reducing – Pore Perfecting Treatment may be just what you so that the only shine on your face throughout the day is your beautiful smile!
